There are the main guidelines of my professional and personal life… they say almost everything that can be said about me in terms of beliefs:

Quality is not measured the absence of defects, as defined by product management, but by the presence of value, as defined by user and customer.

Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.

Someone once said, «Knowledge is constructed of facts, as a house is constructed of bricks. But knowledge is no more a pile of facts than a house is a pile of bricks.» A process is needed to organize those facts and we call that process education.

Through our scientific and technological genius, we have made of this world a neighborhood and yet we have not had the ethical commitment to make of it a brotherhood. But somehow, and in some way, we have got to do this. We must all learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools!

Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution31 de Março de 1968

A “Customer” is the most important visitor on our premises.

He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him.

He is not an interruption on our work. He is the purpose of it.

He is not an outsider on our business. He is a part of it.

We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.”

Mahatma Gandhi

“Who knows that a day may not come when the dissemination of knowledge, which is the vital function of libraries, will be realized by libraries even by means other than those of the printed book?

S. R. Ranganathan, The Five Laws of Library Science, 1931

“Do not get so busy making a living, that you forget to make a life.”

We have an obligation to support libraries. To use libraries, to encourage others to use libraries, to protest the closure of libraries. If you do not value libraries then you do not value information or culture or wisdom. You are silencing the voices of the past and you are damaging the future.
We have an obligation to read aloud to our children. To read them things they enjoy. To read to them stories we are already tired of. To do the voices, to make it interesting, and not to stop reading to them just because they learn to read to themselves. Use reading-aloud time as bonding time, as time when no phones are being checked, when the distractions of the world are put aside.
Neil Gaiman
